Anne Marie L. Gonczy, nee Laporte, 72, of Mt. Prospect, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017.  Beloved wife of Stephen Gonczy; loving mother of Teresa (Brian) Gonczy O’Rourke.  Dear sister of Gerald Laporte, and Eugene (Laura) Laporte. Fond aunt of Tom, Julie and Stephanie.  Cherished cousin of many.  Preceded in death by her parents Rosaire and Catherine Laporte.

Anne Marie was born in Windsor, Canada in 1945 to Rosaire and Catherine Laporte. Her family moved to Detroit Michigan when she was three years old. She grew up with her brothers Gerald and Eugene in northeast Detroit attending St. Raymond’s Catholic grade school and Dominican Catholic high school. In 1967 she graduated summa cum laude from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids Michigan with a double major in economics and mathematics. That same year she started her professional career as an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. In a 38 year career at the Chicago Fed, she earned an MBA degree at the University of Chicago and rose through the ranks of the economics research department, retiring in 2005 as a Senior Economist and Assistant Vice President.

Anne Marie met her husband Steve in 1977 in Chicago and they were married in April 1979. They moved to Mount Prospect that year and lived in the same house for 38 years. Over all those years she and Steve together raised their daughter Teresa, while supporting each other in their respective professional careers in economics, scientific research, and the Army Reserve and sharing their enthusiasm for Contract Bridge and the Chicago Cubs. As active members of St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Mt. Prospect for 35 years, they served their local community and formed strong friendships with many good neighbors. After retirement Anne Marie returned to her favorite hobbies of knitting and murder mysteries and annually escaped Chicago winters with Steve as “snowbirds” in San Diego, CA. The year 2016 was a jubilee year for Anne Marie, because daughter Teresa and Brian O’Rourke were married in a wonderful wedding in June and because her beloved Chicago Cubs won the World Series in November.
